RALEIGH (WTVD) -- North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory is pushing ahead with his agenda on mental health issues in the state.
He met Tuesday for the first time with a newly-appointed Governor's Task Force on Mental Health and Substance Use.
The group is expected to bring recommendations to the governor and the General Assembly next spring on how to address the problems of mental health and substance abuse statewide.
"It's often something that's swept under the bed and not dealt with. Everyone knows it's there and they're not comfortable talking about it because it's an issue that's hard to grasp and it's an issue that's impacting many families that's represented in this room, every community that's represented in this room," said McCrory.
McCrory says the state's mental health issues impact courts, prisons, emergency rooms, and law enforcement.
The task force is headed-up by Chief Justice Mark Martin and DHHS Secretary Rick Brajer.
