Warmth for Wake seeks volunteers
There's lots of firewood to be cut and delivered.

Winter is just around the corner and the Warmth For Wake is helping families in need to stay warm with a firewood delivery program.

"A part of the program is the distribution of firewood to low income families who use wood as their primary heat source," explained Brian Gunter with Wake Co. Human Services.

"We delivered about 300 loads of wood last year and that cost several thousand dollars," he said.

Before the wood can be distributed, Warmth For Wake is seeking volunteers to cut and help deliver it. With so many downed trees from Hurricane Matthew, the City of Raleigh has a surplus this year.

The delivery dates throughout the cold months to volunteer are:

-October 8 & 22

-November 5 & 19

-December 3 & 17

-January 14 & 28

-February 11 & 25

-March 11 & 25 (if needed)

"The program is funded entirely by tax deductible donations," Gunter said.

"The fundraising is coordinating by the NC Bankers Association through Wake Co. branches, but anybody can make donations to the program," he said.
