JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. -- A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on N.C. Highway 210 in Johnston County late Thursday night.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol told ABC11 the accident happened when the motorcyclist failed to stop for a trooper.

They said the trooper tried to stop 26-year-old Camilo Apolinar Jr. when he spotted him driving without his headlights on.

Authorities said instead of stopping, Apolinar took off down HWY-210

Apolinar lost control of the motorcycle in a curve and hit a pickup truck head-on. He died at WakeMed Hospital.

The passenger and driver of the truck were taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both directions of the road between Interstate 40 and McGee's Crossroads were shut down as authorities cleared the scene.
