CARY, NC (WTVD) -- On Wednesday, drivers travelling through Cary should expect delays on Southeast Maynard Road, North Harrison Avenue and Dixon Avenue between Chatham Street and Chapel Hill Road.

Crews working on behalf of Norfolk Southern and the North Carolina Railroad have closed three railroad crossings at major intersections to make improvements to the crossing and tracks.

The delays will be most significant during the morning and afternoon rush hours. The closings will impact traffic throughout downtown and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays.

Drivers coming from the east should follow the signed detours to Trinity Road at Chapel Hill Road and Maynard Road, and to East Durham Road at Chapel Hill Road. Drivers coming from the south or north should take Cary Parkway or Maynard Road to avoid the center of town.
