Deputies: Vance County man shot 2 neighbors

HENDERSON (WTVD) -- Vance County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a double-shooting they say happened Tuesday night near Henderson.

Deputies said it happened around 8:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Daniel Boone Trail, just outside of city limits.

Upon arrival, authorities found 35-year-old Matthew Allen had been shot in the shoulder. While on scene, deputies heard a shot fired nearby.

Authorities found the second victim, 62-year-old Melvin Wayne Kinton, in the 500 block of Daniel Boone Trail.

Allen was transported a local medical center where he was treated. Kinton was taken to Duke Hospital where he is being treated. Neither of the victim's conditions were released.

Authorities arrested 54-year-old Bryant Keith Coleman and charged him in connection with the shootings. Deputies said both the victims and the alleged shooter are all neighbors who live on Daniel Boone Trail.

Coleman is charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon and intent to kill inflicting injury. He is also charged with discharging a weapon (hunting rifle) into an occupied building inflicting serious bodily injury.

Coleman was placed in the Vance County Detention Center under a total bond of $500,000. His next court appearance is Nov. 16. Authorities said they did not know if there was a motive for the crimes.
