FRANKLIN COUNTY (WTVD) -- A 2-month-old baby is in critical condition at WakeMed after a car accident in Franklin County Saturday.

Troopers said it was a four car collision. Two cars, a GMC Acadia and a Honda Civic, were traveling south on Highway 401. The Civic went to make a left turn and the Acadia rear-ended it which caused the Civic to spin out.

An oncoming Mercedes hit the Civic and then the Mercedes ran off the road and hit a parked Jeep.

In addition to the infant, a 5-year-old has a broken spine and neck. Several other adults were taken to the hospital as well, according to officials.

Troopers said a car seat was not installed properly because it was not facing the rear.

An earlier version of this story listed the infant as a 3-month-old and the 5-year-old was said to have a broken femur, based on initial reports from State Highway Patrol.
