Driver flees the scene after crashing into school bus in Burlington
BURLINGTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Burlington police have charged a driver who they say slammed into a school bus and fled the scene early Wednesday morning.
Police said the driver of a gray Nissan hit the school bus on Briarcliff Road around 7 a.m. At the time of the crash, there were 36 elementary school students on the bus on their way to Smith School.
The stop-arm was out and the bus was picking up a student when the Nissan slammed into the back of the bus. Police said the driver sped away after the collision.
Neither the students nor the bus driver were injured in the crash. School officials notified the parents and the bus was able to continue its route.
Police located the driver of the Nissan after canvassing the area. James Davis Scott IV, 21, was arrested and charged with hit and run, passing a stopped school bus, and failure to reduce speed.
Scott was taken before an Alamance County Magistrate who released him under a written promise to appear in court.
