CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Forecasters have confirmed that a tornado touched down earlier this week in North Carolina

The National Weather Service tells local media outlets that an EF-0 tornado touched down just before 5 p.m. on Monday in Union County, about 30 miles southeast off Charlotte.

Officials say the tornado had maximum wind speeds of 80 to 85 mph. It was on the ground for about three minutes and traveled less than a mile, and deputies say they've gotten reports of trees being toppled and some buildings damaged.

No injuries have been reported.

Officials say no thunder or lightning was detected near the storm.
