NASHVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- Despite losing a leg to cancer, Nash County Sheriff's Office K-9 Deputy Sasha says it's too soon to retire.

The department says after consulting with veterinarians, it's been determined the dedicated canine has the ability to continue a career in law enforcement and Sasha will be back on the force soon.

Sasha's leg was amputated in November after vets said a spot on her leg was Sarcoma and the limb had to be removed to keep the cancer from spreading.

Sgt. Greg Adams, Sasha's handler, said it hurts Sasha's feelings every day when he comes to work without her. He said that Sasha has adapted and adjusted well and is just as capable of doing the job as before.

Sasha will be returning to the NCSO in a selective service capacity.
