In a network TV appearance, Dash, discussing the Oscars, said in part that there should be no Black History Month, among other racially-specific recognition.
"We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don't want segregation, then we have to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards," she said.
"If it were the other way around, we'd be up in arms," she continued. "It's a double standard. There shouldn't be a Black History Month. We're Americans, period."
In a post on the religious content website Patheos, Dash said she's not the only person in Hollywood to share the view on Black History Month, citing Morgan Freeman.
Dash's Facebook post on the issue has more than 17,000 likes and nearly 7,000 shares.
Celebrities, as well as the BET network, are now weighing in on Dash's remarks.
