ROCKY MOUNT, NC (WTVD) -- Northbound I-95 was closed near Exit 132, close to Rocky Mount, for hours Saturday because of a crash that dumped cabbage all over the highway.

Highway Patrol said they believe the tractor-trailer's driver, 31-year-old Kevin Eugene Ellis, was under the influence of a controlled substance. He has been charged with a DWI, commercial motor vehicle DWI, careless and reckless driving, and no seat belt.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. A truck hauling the cabbage turned on its side and the trailer split open. Troopers said Ellis veered into the grass median. When he overcorrected, he jackknifed and overturned on the highway.

Ellis and a front seat passenger, 32-year-old Jade Lidely Ellis, were taken to Wilson Medical Center. They are said to have non-life threatening injuries.

Workers had to get the truck upright and then clean up the mess before the interstate could be reopened. All lanes reopened just after 3 p.m.
