LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. (WTVD) -- A homicide investigation in Lancaster County, S.C. has been suspended after witnesses told the sheriff's department the victim shot himself while playing Russian roulette.
Brandon Reese, 22, was found dead in his pickup Jan. 12, WSOC reports.
Because deputies did not find a gun, they began investigating Reese's death as a homicide. Friday, sheriff's spokesperson Doug Barfield said deputies used phone records to track down five people that knew more details.
In all interviews, the witnesses said Reese had shot himself while playing Russian roulette, WSOC reports.
The witnesses all told the same story of how Reese pointed the gun at the floor of his truck and pulled the trigger, but nothing happened. He then reportedly pointed the gun at his head and fired, killing himself.
The witnesses even took lie detector tests to validate their bizarre retelling.
No charges have been filed, though that may change.
