Several brush fires were seen burning along the eastbound side of Interstate 40 at the Wake/Johnston County line late Thursday morning.

Images from Chopper11 HD showed smoke, scorched grass and trees down between HWY-70 Business and US-70/Clayton Bypass around 10:30 a.m.

Johnston County Assistant Fire Marshall told ABC11 that a Ford Expedition that was driving down I-40 malfunctioned, sparking small fires along the eastbound lanes of the interstate. No one injured.

Traffic was briefly impacted due to lane closures at exit 308 and 309 as firefighters put out the blaze.
