RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Tuesday night, representatives from the Raleigh Police Department and concerned residents are meeting for what organizers are calling a Barbershop Rap Session.

Tru Pettigrew is the organizer of the event scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Bar Ber Shop on New Bern Avenue near the Wal-Mart.

Meetings such as these between community members and police are gaining more attention since the officer involved, fatal shooting of Akiel Denkins in southeast Raleigh weeks ago.

The shooting highlighted what many say they feel is a strained relationship with RPD.

Other meetings, similar to the one happening Tuesday night, are held every Monday at Revelation Baptist Church on South Davie Street. Raleigh Police Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown attended this week's meeting.
