Woman mowing yard killed in Edgecombe County

PINETOPS, NC (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a woman was killed while mowing her front yard in Edgecombe County.



It happened around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on North Carolina Highway 111 just north of the Town of Pinetops.



Troopers said an SUV drifted off the road and hit a mailbox before hitting 71 year-old Lillie Parker Sherrod.



The driver was identified as 40-year-old Jennifer Phillips of Tarboro.



The Highway Patrol is conferring with the Edgecombe County District Attorney's Office on charges.
