ROANOKE RAPIDS, NC (WTVD) -- Officials say Roanoke Rapids High School went into a "soft lockdown" Thursday morning after the bear was spotted on the school's campus.

Students posted photos in social media of animal walking around the school grounds.

Manning Elementary School was notified of the bear as it was headed towards them. It was never spotted at that school.

This is the third bear sighting in Roanoke Rapids in a week.

Dr. John Parker, Interim Superintendent of Roanoke Rapids Graded Schools, said he thinks the bear on campus is a first for the high school, which was established in 1921.
