FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fire crews say a lightning strike from a thunderstorm Sunday evening is to blame for a house fire in Fayetteville.

It happened just after 6 p.m. in the 1100 block of Turnpike Road off Branson Street.

Crews say there was heavy smoke coming from the attic and rear of the single story house when they arrived. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze quickly but the home still had heavy damage throughout.

Three adults made it out safely and there are no injuries, according to authorities. The family is getting help from the Red Cross.
