Bat in Durham home tests positive for rabies

DURHAM (WTVD) -- The Animal Services Division of the Durham County Sheriff's Office removed a rabid bat from a home in the 500 block of Liberty Street last week.



When the deputy arrived at the home July 8, the bat was already dead. It was taken to a lab where it tested positive for rabies.



There is no known human exposure related to the rabid bat.





The Animal Services Division of the Durham County Sheriff's Office encourages the public to report the location of any animals exhibiting aggressive behavior. Please call (919) 560-0900 if you suspect an animal is infected with the rabies virus.
