American Airlines flight makes emergency landing at RDU

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- An American Airlines flight bound for London Heathrow was forced to make an emergency landing at RDU on Friday night.

In a statement, the airline said:

"American Airlines flight 174 from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to London Heathrow (LHR) returned to RDU shortly after takeoff due to a suspected mechanical issue. The aircraft landed safely and was towed to the gate where the passengers deplaned. No passengers or crew were injured, and we are re-accommodating passengers on next available flights to London. We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers."
