The Fayetteville Fire and Emergency Management Department responded to a report of a hazardous materials leak at Hexion Chemicals at 1411 Industrial Drive off of Old Wilmington Road on Friday night.

The incident happened shortly before 10:30 p.m. The fire department determined that a hazardous substance was leaking from a rail car during an offloading process.

The area surrounding the leak was secured and the streets branching off closed by the Fayetteville Police Department.

Employees of the plant advised that a line connected to a rail car transporting phenol had ruptured resulting in the leak.
