Gov. Pat McCrory ordered all state buildings to lower their flags to half-staff from sunrise on Monday to sunset on Wednesday.

The order is in memorial of former UNC men's basketball coach Dean Smith, who died Saturday night. He was 83.

Gov. McCrory issued this statement:

"Ann and I were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Coach Smith. Coach Smith is a legend on and off the court and his life will leave a lasting legacy at Chapel Hill and across the state and nation. May the skies shine Carolina Blue in your honor Coach."
