DURHAM (WTVD) -- An upper-level system brought lingering clouds and showers across central North Carolina Friday evening, which helped usher in drier and colder air.

Temperatures will drop into at least the middle 30s. Some of the normally colder spots might drop below freezing as well.

"A cold, northerly flow will continue into the weekend on the eastern side of an area of high pressure," said ABC11 Chief Meteorologist Chris Hohmann. "With a partly sunny sky, temperatures will only reach the mid-40s to near 50 Saturday. Temperatures will drop below freezing just above everywhere Saturday night into Sunday morning. We expect more sunshine and temperatures reaching the middle 50s on Sunday."

As the high slides off to the southeast, Monday will turn out warmer with a partly sunny sky. Temperatures will top out in the middle 60s. A weak front approaching the area could touch off spotty showers.

High pressure building into the area will provide a sunny and milder day Tuesday. Wednesday will be dry and mild as well.
