43-year-old accused of sexually assaulting 86-year-old

MINT HILL, N.C. -- Mint Hill police have charged a 43-year-old employee of an assisted living center with sexually assaulting an 86-year-old woman who later died in a hospital.

Local media outlets report that Willie Shaw is charged with first-degree sex offense. He is accused of assaulting the woman in mid-May at the assisted living center. Investigators have not specified Shaw's job at the facility or how long he worked there.

An attorney representing the victim's family says doctors notified police after the woman was taken to a hospital May 14 for bleeding. She died a few days later at the hospital in Matthews. The medical examiner has not yet determined why she died.

It was unclear whether Shaw has an attorney.
