8 unlocked cars hit; Stolen van in Mebane found in Durham

MEBANE (WTVD) -- Leaving your car doors unlocked is not a good idea, as multiple people found out the hard way early Friday morning.

Police in Mebane said eight vehicles left unlocked in the area of Silver Drive and Ashbury Square were all targeted by criminals shortly after 5 a.m.

One of the vehicles, a 2014 Dodge Journey, was stolen. Other items taken from the various vehicles included a cell phone, change, a watch, a garage door opener, a laptop and a Walther .380 handgun.

The stolen Dodge was found in Durham.

The investigation is continuing.
