Franklin County school superintendent resigns

The Franklin County School superintendent has stepped down.

Lisa Martin handed in her resignation to the school board Monday night. She led the district for just over a year-and-a-half.

In a statement, School Board Chair Gilbert Johnson said, "We appreciate Dr. Martin's work in Franklin County Schools. Both the board and Dr. Martin believe this separation is in the best interest of both parties. It is our hope that the district will build upon her accomplishments and continue to move forward to encourage a positive environment for students and staff."

The board selected Dr. Rhonda Schuhler, the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, to serve as acting superintendent while they begin the superintendent search process.
