Amtrak train hits car in Garner
An Amtrak train hit a car in Wake County late Wednesday night. It happened around 10 p.m. in Garner on Garner Road at Vandora Springs Road.

GARNER, N.C. (WTVD) -- An Amtrak train hit a car in Wake County late Wednesday night.

It happened around 10:20 p.m. in Garner on Garner Road at Vandora Springs Road.

Witnesses said the train hit the car and the car flipped over.

Police said no one was injured. The driver - who told police he got trapped by the crossing gates - was able to get out of the vehicle.

Amtrak said the Silver Star was heading from New York to Miami at the time of the incident. None of the 162 passengers or crew members were injured.

A woman died in a crash with a train back in Oct. 2013 at the same intersection.
