CONCORD, N.C. (WTVD) -- Interstate 85 north near Concord has reopened after a BMW crashed into a firetruck blocking lanes for a previous wreck.

WSOC-TV reports the driver was impaired, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

All four northbound I-85 lanes about 15 miles north of Charlotte had to be closed for several hours to clean up the wrecks not long after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say the firetruck was blocking lanes after a wreck near the Bruton Smith Boulevard exit when the BMW smashed into the truck at almost full speed.

The BMW's driver was taken to the hospital. No firefighters were hurt.

The firetruck was so badly damaged it had to be towed away from the wreck.
