Trooper say the dead man was married with two children

SELMA, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities have charged a Department of Transportation subcontractor in the death of motorcyclist near NC Hwy 42 and Thanksgiving Fire Road east of Clayton.

The crash was first reported around 7:45 a.m. Friday.

Investigators say William Pittman was moving to a new spot to mow when he pulled into the road and collided with 31-year-old Anthony Suggs Jr. Suggs was thrown from his bike - which was destroyed by the impact.

A spokesperson for the North Carolina Department of Transportation said Pittman is a contract worker with a Grifton, NC-based company. He was not injured.

Pittman is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Suggs was married with two children. He also had two children from a previous relationship.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said speed was not a factor in the accident.

Pittman is scheduled to face a judge in July.
