MOORE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- An eighth-grade girl exiting a Moore County school bus was taken to the hospital after she was struck by an oncoming truck, authorities said.

According to an official with Moore County Schools, the bus was traveling north Thursday on U.S. Highway 15-501 near Carthage. The bus was reportedly stopped with its lights on when the girl exited at Muse Road.

A truck pulling a trailer didn't realize the bus had stopped, authorities said, and swerved to avoid a collision.

The truck swerved right into a ditch and its trailer struck the door of the bus and the girl, a state trooper told ABC11 on Friday.

The girl was responsive and was taken to Moore Regional Hospital.

Authorities said the girl has non-life threatening injuries. On Friday, she was listed in good condition.

According to the Aberdeen Times, the girl is a student at New Century Middle School.

No other injuries were reported.

Charges are pending against Percy Eugene Degrassenreid, 46, of Carthage for failure to reduce speed and passing a stopped school bus.
