GARNER, N.C. (WTVD) -- Police and emergency crews responded to a Garner trailer park Wednesday afternoon after a 16-month-old child was hit by a car.

It happened around 4:45 p.m. in the 8100 block of Bryan Drive.

Authorities said 33-year-old William J. Case III was backing up without looking and hit the young girl.

The child was under the car when the muffler hit her and burned part of her face, authorities said. She was taken to the UNC-Chapel Hill burn unit.

The extent of the child's injuries are unknown, but authorities said they are non-life threatening.

No charges have been filed yet.
