DURHAM (WTVD) -- The Durham County Sheriff's Office has charged a local Boy Scouts of America leader with sex crimes.

According to arrest warrants, 50-year-old John Herbert Adams, of Blazing Star Lane in Bahama, took graphic sexual photos of a girl between the ages of 3 and 4 posing in explicit ways. The warrants allege the activity took place between 2010 and April 17 of this year.

Adams faces charges of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, indecent liberties with a child, second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

Adams posted a $75,000 bond and was released.

John Akerman, spokesperson for the Boy Scouts of America, said Adams was a leader with a Bahama-area scout troop for at least three years. He was immediately dismissed by the organization upon learning of the accusations.

Akerman said Adams can appeal the dismissal if the charges are proven false.

Akerman also said the Scouts conduct background checks and nothing suspicious about Adams turned up.
