Durham PD to travel to Boston following crime report

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Members of the Durham Police Department that visited Boston and Kansas City, Missouri to see how their police departments are working to reduce crime are sharing their findings Friday.

It is part of an initiative to reduce gun violence in the Bull City following the latest crime report that showed a spike in violent crime.

The delegation's findings also come on the heels of another shooting in Durham Thursday night.

A man was found dead from a gunshot wound on Ida Street near Guess Road.

The District Attorney, the police department, and Durham leaders drew up the plans, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice, to visit other cities last month that are working with faith leaders and community members in an effort to help reduce crime, gun violence and improve community-police relations.
