Durham police arrest two armed robbery suspects

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Durham police said they arrested two men Saturday night and charged them with robbing two people at gunpoint in separate incidents.

Darence Qufon Pearson, 25, of Durham and Raheem Norwood Bass, 22, of Hillsborough were both charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Police said officers responded to a call of a robbery at an apartment complex in the 300 block of South LaSalle Street. A man said he was robbed by two men in a Lincoln car.

A nearby officer saw the car turn onto Morreene Road at a high speed then turn onto Sherwood drive. The officer arrested the two men, Pearson and Bass.

Police said they found a loaded gun, phones, and a wallet which belonged to a robbery victim.

Both men were taken to Durham County Jail with $1 million bonds.

There have been a number of robberies in several apartment complexes on Leon Street, Broad Street, LaSalle Street, Garrett Road, Chalk Level Road, and Morreene Road primarily targeting Hispanic victims, according to authorities.
