An NYPD officer was injured in an incident involving a police cruiser in Brooklyn Monday morning.

The surveillance video obtained exclusively by Eyewitness News from JPUpdates.com moves very quickly.

You see a police officer hanging onto the hood of a police cruiser. When the driver hits the brakes the officer flies off the hood and onto the street.

We're told it happened around 8 a.m. Monday in the Kensington section of Brooklyn.

The cruiser is heading down Seton Place. Right before the intersection with Parkville Avenue, the car stops but the officer doesn't. He is flung off.

He was taken to Lutheran Medical Center for non- life threatening head injuries. It's reported he was conscious and alert at the scene which is right next to the 70th precinct.

Michelle Bistrova saw the accident scene this morning on the way to work. Monday night on the way home, she was shocked to learn it involved police officers.

"I think it's pretty bad given what's going on in the world, in America especially with the cops," Bistrova said.

Were they joyriding? Was there some kind of dispute? Those are prime questions for police internal review which is now investigating.

There are multiple surveillance cameras on this corner which provide an even better angle of the incident.

Eyewitness News is told that camera is controlled by the police while another one belongs to a private school.

They should have been able to capture a few more seconds before the officer falls off the hood.
