DURHAM (WTVD) -- A trial began Monday in Durham in the case of a deadly bus crash that killed a Chapel Hill man two years ago.

The crash involved six students and two adults on their way to an open house at a Virginia University.

Doval Watson, 58, was killed. His family hired well-known attorney Willie Gary to take on their case.

The judge in the case told potential jurors that the case is not about who is at fault, but about the amount of damages that should be paid to Watson's family because both parties have agreed that the defendants were negligent.

Lawyers for the Watson family contends that the bus driver lost control of the bus while attempting to retrieve his beverage.

Testimony is expected to begin Tuesday. The trial could finish by the end of the week.
