FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- Police Chief Harold Medlock's message to potential holiday thieves is simple: Take your mess somewhere else.

"We are going to swarm on you," Medlock warned during a press conference at Cross Creek Mall Tuesday. "We will take every resource and every effort that the Fayetteville Police Department has and all of our criminal justice partners to make sure that we take you out of commission, put you in jail for the holiday season, and long after that."

"Don't do your crime in Fayetteville, North Carolina on this Christmas and holiday season," he added.

Law enforcement officers and merchants joined together in the mall's food court to speak about holiday shopping safety. They reminded shoppers to be vigilant, avoid leaving purchases out in the open and in car seats and lock vehicle doors.
