Fayetteville library needs help after Hurricane Matthew

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- Fayetteville's largest library needs the community's help after Hurricane Matthew.
The group Friends of the Library is asking for your donations to replace books ruined by the flood.
Water from nearby Cross Creek filled the basement of the Cumberland County main branch on Maiden Lane.
The organization runs a bookstore in the basement. Hurricane Matthew wiped most of their catalog along with the surrounding offices, forcing employees to move upstairs into conference rooms and share space while repairs are being made.
The bookstore is a major source of income for the library. In fact, it funds many of the free programs that the library offers to the community - including the Summer Reading Program. Library staff say the Hurricane washed away a lot of the hard work that went into setting up the sales.
"It was tough to see because we know that hundreds and hundreds of hours had been put into the room to getting the Uber room ready to go, books were ready to go. They do an excellent job of processing through the book sale so they're very popular. It was hard to see all of that hard work be taken out of the flood." said Kellie Tomita.
Friends of the library is only accepting monetary donations right now because they're running out of space for books and other materials.
