Firefighter injured while battling Fayetteville house fire

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A firefighter is recovering after being injured while battling a house fire late Sunday night.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. at a 1-story house at the intersection of Raeford Road and Rim Road in West Fayetteville.

By the time fire crews arrived, heavy smoke could be seen pouring out of the vacant home.

As firefighters searched the home for anyone inside and began to put out the flames, an interior ceiling collapsed onto one of the firefighters.

He was taken to by ambulance Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

No one else was injured.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
