Fox near Durham home tests positive for rabies

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A Durham man is receiving treatment after being exposed to a rabid fox last Friday.

Officials with the Animal Services Division of the Durham County Sheriff's Office were called to the man's home in the 700 block of Pleasant Drive after the fox became aggressive towards the man.

The man then placed a trash bin over the animal until deputies arrived.

The fox died shortly after authorities got to the scene.

No other person or animal was exposed to the rabid fox, according to authorities.

The Animal Services Division of the Durham County Sheriff's Office encourages the public to report the location of any animals exhibiting aggressive behavior. Please call (919) 560-0900 if you suspect an animal is infected with the rabies virus.
