RALEIGH, North Carolina -- A gas leak forced evacuations Tuesday on North Carver Street between Oakwood and Pender in east Raleigh.

PSNC Energy said a third-party contractor doing work damaged a 2-inch line. Crews were able to stop the gas leak shortly after 3 p.m.

Crews had to dig up the street to make repairs.

The work could take several hours.

There was no loss of gas service to customers in the area, PSNC said.
