A Cypress man who was already facing indecency with a child charges is now accused of trying to have his own wife killed

HOUSTON -- A Cypress, Texas man who was already facing indecency with a child charges is now accused of trying to have his own wife killed.

According to the Harris County District Attorney's Office, Jeffery Basey, 68, who was already in jail on the indecency charge, tried to hire a hit man to kill his wife for $50,000 on December 23. The man posing as a hit man was actually an undercover law enforcement officer.

Basey allegedly gave $5,000 to the officer as a downpayment. Investigators say the inmate's sister delivered the money, but they believe she had no knowledge of the plot.

Golda Yvonne Basey is scheduled to testify against her husband in the child indecency case, according to prosecutors.

Basey is now facing a solicitation of capital murder charge on top of the indecency charge. No bond has been set in his case. He had been banned from his old Cypress neighborhood.

Neighbors at his former Cypress home were too spooked to talk to us on camera but describe Basey's wife as a nice woman and they say they hope she is safe.

Investigators say his jail solicitation offer was recorded.
