A fire in Benson gutted a mobile home and left a family homeless on Sunday night

BENSON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A fire destroyed a mobile home in Johnston County on Sunday, leaving a family without a place to live.

It happened at 442 Memory Lane in Benson. ABC11 was first on the scene as firefighters were knocking down hot spots.

The flames gutted the mobile home. Our crew on the scene said no one was home at the time of the blaze.

The family that lived there is now homeless. It is not yet known if the Red Cross is helping the family.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
