Man arrested in early morning Raleigh shooting

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Raleigh police have arrested a suspect for an early Wednesday morning shooting that sent one man to the hospital.

Police were called to the 400 block of Carolina Pines Avenue shortly before 7 a.m.

Officers found the victim, 38-year-old Billy Joe McNair, Jr., at the scene. He was taken to WakeMed with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

After an investigation, detectives determined the shooting actually happened outside of a residence in the 500 block of Granite Street.

RPD officers arrested Markell Moran Chess, 23, and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana.

Chess was taken to the Wake County Detention Center.
