Man charged in attempt to kidnap teenage girl
Police in Fayetteville have arrested the man they say tried to kidnap a teen Thursday morning.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Police in Fayetteville have arrested the man they say tried to kidnap a teen Thursday morning.

The incident happened around 11:30 a.m. along McFadyen Drive in the Devonwood subdivision.

Police said they detained a "person of interest" on Friday. Just before 5:30, 35-year-old Jim Don Carter was arrested and charged. Carter was stopped while driving along the same neighborhood street where the incident was reported.

"He (the officer) was patrolling the area of McFadyen Drive. He saw the vehicle that matched the description. He looked at the driver, saw tattoos, and he did a traffic stop," said Fayetteville Police Lt. Todd Joyce.

Police said a 17-year-old girl was attempting to locate her lost dog when she noticed a turquoise or teal-colored four-door Mazda with tinted windows.

A man asked where she was going. The victim said, when she ignored the man, he got out of the car and attempted to grab her by the arm. The girl was able to free herself from the man's grasp and ran to call police.

911 Caller: "She just said he pulled up in the car behind her, and he stopped and she looked back, and he grabbed her, and she was punching him in the face."

Police said Carter's home address is not far from where the teen was attacked. They also said it appeared to be random incident.

Carter was charged with attempted second degree kidnapping and is being held under a $25,000 bond. He makes a first court appearance on Monday.
