SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A Pokemon Go player is recovering after he was stabbed in the face in broad daylight while playing the game in downtown San Jose, California.

Chris Perguidi's chin and other wounds are still healing six days after the attack.

Perguidi was walking with his phone toward two Poke stops. And when he got there he says a woman suddenly started yelling at him and a man jumped on him. He says they accused him of recording them on his phone. Then they tried to steal his backpack.

"He had a knife, so he actually slashed my chin across. Then he grabbed me by the back of the head and hit me in the chest and back," Perguidi said.

The suspects got away and Perguidi had no idea he was hurt so badly. He stumbled to his girlfriend's office nearby.

"I just couldn't believe it. I wanted it to be a joke honestly. It was really scary because he was bleeding so much," said Perguidi's girlfriend Trina Mason.

Perguidi thinks part of the reason he was targeted may have been because he wasn't paying attention. But lots of people don't while playing Pokemon Go.

"I shouldn't have to pay attention to everything all the time. It shouldn't be a world we live in," he said.

Police say they have no suspects.
