Motorcyclist killed after crashing into Raleigh building
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A war veteran and young father was killed in a motorcycle crash early Monday morning in downtown Raleigh.
The accident happened shortly after 1:15 a.m. on West Edenton Street.
Police said 31-year-old Michael Braddock Allison of Garner was on his bike and failed to negotiate around a curve. He slammed into a brick building.
Allison died instantly, according to an eyewitness who called 911.
"There was a guy just drove straight into a brick wall on a motorcycle. I need an ambulance here immediately," the eyewitness told the 911 dispatcher. "The road curved and it look like he hit the curb and drove over head-on into the building."
The eyewitness said Allison wasn't breathing and his injuries were extensive. He was found lying on the ground and his black Harley-Davidson was on its side nearby.
EMS pronounced Allison dead at the scene.
It was raining at the time of the wreck and the roads were wet.
Police said Allison was speeding down West Edenton Street and said they believe he might have been impaired. Family members told ABC11 they're in shock and trying to cope.
Allison leaves behind two young daughters, and he spent the past weekend hanging out with his girls.
Allison worked at a local Best Buy and was going to school full-time at Wake Tech. He was pursuing an associates degree in Information System Security this spring.
"Wake Tech regrets to hear about the sudden loss of one of our students. Our condolences go out to his family," Wake Tech spokesperson Laurie Clowers said.
Allison was a war veteran. His family said he served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
