N&O: Mother says man accused in Raleigh killing suffers from mental illness

The News and Observer reports that the mother of Kendrick Gregory - who is accused of two shootings in Raleigh and the rape of a teen - says he has suffered from mental illness for years. She said she got him into a mental health facility, but they soon released him.
