ROCKY MOUNT, NC (WTVD) -- A UNC Pembroke junior originally from Rocky Mount that was reported missing in Costa Rica has been found dead.
The school said 21-year-old Deon Greene was on a trip to the beach while studying abroad at The National University of Costa Rica in Heredia when he went below the ocean surface and didn't come back up.
His body was found Friday.
Greene's family says he aspired to work in the medical field and wanted to study Spanish because he felt it would help him better connect with others in that field.
"Deon was a great young man. He was a very lovable person. Everybody loved him," said Greene's sister Kurtisha Armstrong.
Greene was supposed to return home from study abroad this December to begin his senior year. The family is making funeral arrangements.
