Pedestrian struck, killed on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A man struck by a car Wednesday night in the 3100 block of New Bern Avenue in Raleigh was pronounced dead at WakeMed a short time later.

Police said it happened just after 9 p.m. Richard Lamar Caldwell, 45, had just crossed the outbound lanes between Millburnie Road and Shanda Drive.

He had just started crossing the inbound lanes when he was hit by a 2000 Dodge passenger car.

Officials said Caldwell was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.

The driver, 22-year-old Jessika Mariya Lewis, has not been charged.

Raleigh police are still working to complete a wreck report.
