Person on tracks struck, killed by train in Kenly

KENLY, N.C. (WTVD) -- An Amtrak train headed to New York struck and killed a person early Sunday morning.

It happened around 2:42 a.m. in Kenly. An Amtrak official said Train 98 was temporarily halted while authorities investigated.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.

The crew requested to be relieved after the crash. Once the new crew arrived, the train resumed service to New York.

There were 346 passengers on the train. There were no reported injuries to passengers or crew members, officials said.
